Chalisa is a Siddhi Mantra
Neem Karoli Baba once said:
“Every verse of the Hanuman Chalisa is a Maha Mantra; it is a Siddhi Mantra.”
What is Siddhi? Siddhi means attainment, the divine unfolding of life’s fourfold fulfillment — Artha (prosperity and support), Kama (harmonious desires), Dharma (righteous living), and Moksha (liberation). With the grace of the Almighty, these Purusharthas blossom naturally through spiritual practice of Hanuman Chalisa.
During the time of Goswami Tulsidas, people came to him with fears, illnesses, and difficulties. Instead of elaborate Vedic rituals, he offered a simple remedy—recite the Hanuman Chalisa. It became a living prayer for all, bringing relief and protection to anyone who sought Hanuman’s grace with faith.
Casual Chanting
Chanting the Chalisa is one of the simplest yet most powerful practices. It brings benefit in countless ways, especially tremendous protection. Even a single recitation a day is better than none at all. When you make it part of your daily rhythm—whether during chores, work, driving, or before sleep—it purifies the mind and slowly awakens the Siddhis, provided there is deep faith in Hanuman and the sacred process.
A devotee once shared that after months of chanting without any visible result, he began to feel discouraged. Yet, choosing to persist with patience, he one day faced a sudden crisis—and in that very moment, unexpected help arrived. It was then he realized that Hanuman’s unseen hand had been protecting him all along. What seemed like “no result” was in truth constant, silent guardianship. Such experiences remind us that doubt dissolves only when faith matures, and Hanuman’s grace always manifests in His own way and time.
Reading with Emotions Invoked
Many devotees also take great vows: chanting 11 times for 11 days, 40 times for 40 days, or even 108 continuous recitations. Yet some say their desires remain unfulfilled. Why is this so? The reason lies in mechanical chanting, done only with the end goal in mind. True transformation requires Bhakti—pure devotion and faith. The Chalisa itself assures:
“Jo yaha padhe Hanuman Chalisa, hoye siddhi sakhi Gaureesa”
—whoever reads the Chalisa with devotion attains fulfillment, as even Lord Shiva bears witness.
There is a certain process which is explained in chapter 4 in detail. Before beginning, it is wise to invoke the blessings of your Iṣṭa Devatā, Devi, your Guru, and your parents. Such grounding brings humility and opens the heart. Hanuman, being Chiranjeevi (immortal) and the embodiment of Prāṇa, is ever-present within each of us. He is so near, always eager to respond when called with sincerity. It is not merely we who approach Him; often it is He who rushes towards His devotees.
The highest practice is reading Chalisa before Hanuman’s altar, with full attention on the meaning of each verse, allowing the heart to feel and express every word. This transforms ordinary recitation into living prayer—a sure path to invoking His blessings. Life then begins to unfold as a miracle. Challenges will still arise, for karma must play its role, but Hanuman burns away its weight swiftly (Janam janam ke dukh bisa rāvai). His presence becomes felt in every aspect of life.
Compassionate Reciting with Selfless Service
And when deep devotion is united with selfless service, the practice reaches its pinnacle. Hanuman begins to give beyond what one could ever imagine, more than one deserves. He takes care of His devotees like a loving mother or guru. At that stage, spreading the glory of the Chalisa becomes not only an offering of gratitude but also a selfless mission. Such service generates immense good karma and ensures that countless more souls receive His grace.
The journey of the Hanuman Chalisa moves step by step: casual chanting → reading with emotions invoked → compassionate reciting with selfless service. In this way, what begins as a simple habit grows into living prayer, and finally into a path of divine protection, fulfillment, and liberation. With faith, love, and surrender, Hanuman’s presence shines in every aspect of life.
Jai Shree Ram! Jai Hanumaan!!
